The recording was made for a videocast series put out by the Ben-Zvi Institute, a research institute and publishing house in Jerusalem named for Israeli president Yitzhak Ben-Zvi. The podcast is in Hebrew and captions are available via YouTube.
February 2025: In Honor of the holiday of Tu BiShvat (Jewish Arbor Day), this podcast was recorded on the subject of the importance of heritage trees. Filmed in the Judean Lowlands—an area that has witnessed fascinating historical transformations—amid the familiar landscape of fields and orchards, we discusses heritage trees and the agricultural history of the land, that remains highly relevant to our lives today. To explore this topic, Dr. Yaniv Mazuman sat down with two experts in this fascinating field:
Asaf Beshan – An agronomist at the SHELEF Agricultural Laboratory, who has led the Heritage Trees project for the past decade, dedicated to locating, propagating, planting, and educating the public on preserving Israel’s ancient fruit trees.
Professor Guy Bar-Oz – Member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, founder and head of the Laboratory for Archaeozoology, and head of the Department of Material Cultural Heritage at the Institute of Archaeology at the University of Haifa.
